Chuck's Boy's third independent feature, ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE (produced by Crazy Ants Media LLC) will begin production on Tuesday, August 12. We have a fantastic cast and crew, and I'm eager to get back on set and do what I was created to do. Check out the film's blog for more updates, and like our Facebook page, too! Thanks to everyone who has supported and will support this project. The film means a lot to me, and I can't wait to sit in a dark theater a year from now and enjoy the fruits of our labor with the people who made this movie possible. VANISHING ACT and BLACK PAPER played last weekend at the Made-in-Michigan Film Festival in Frankenmuth, Michigan. It was the festival premiere of BLACK PAPER (the film opened the festival), and both movies received an enthusiastic response from the audience. At the end of the festival, VANISHING ACT took home two awards. The first was for Best Cinematography (Noah Sampsel), and the second was for Best Lead Actress (Charly Bivona). It was a fun festival, and I'm looking forward to returning next year, hopefully with TWENTY YEARS LATER. BLACK PAPER will make its film festival debut tonight at the Made-In-Michigan Film Festival! The film will open the festival at 6:00 PM tonight -- October 18, 2013 -- in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Then tomorrow at 2:50 PM, you can see VANISHING ACT in the Shorts Block #4.
The festival's schedule and other information can be found here. Composer Chris Porter received the award for Best Soundtrack at yesterday's Blue Water Film Festival for his outstanding work on VANISHING ACT! We're thrilled about Chris's achievement! The film was a big hit at the festival and received numerous compliments from audience members and members of the selection committee. Next up: VANISHING ACT will play at the Made-In-Michigan Film Festival in October along with Chuck's Boy's feature film BLACK PAPER. Two Chuck's Boy films have recently scored on the festival circuit. The 2012 short film VANISHING ACT recently played at the HollyShorts Film Festival in Hollywood. It has also been accepted as an official selection of the Blue Water Film Festival and the Made-In-Michigan Film Festival. At Blue Water, VANISHING ACT is nominated for awards in two categories: Best Actor (Joshua Courtade) and Best Soundtrack (Chris Porter). For this year's schedule at Blue Water, click here. The 2013 feature film BLACK PAPER is also an official selection of Made-In-Michigan, and we're very excited to be screening there! So far this is the first festival into which the film has been accepted, and we couldn't be more pleased to be returning to Made-In-Michigan this fall. We'll continue to post schedule details as they become available.
Making HANK DANGER AND THE FOUNTAIN OF DEATH!
Five years ago this month, a legend was born! Indeed, in August of 2008, production began on HANK DANGER AND THE FOUNTAIN OF DEATH! Little did writer/producer/director Joshua Courtade know that his microbudget homage to classic serial films would spawn three more serials, a short film, a radio play, and a small but devoted group of fans. So go ahead and celebrate five years of Hank Danger with a marathon. Watch all the films -- HANK DANGER AND THE FOUNTAIN OF DEATH!, HANK DANGER AND THE SPACE MUMMY'S TOMB!, HANK DANGER AND THE LEAGUE OF SCIENTISTS!, HANK DANGER AND THE RIDDLE MOUNTAIN CURSE!, and the award-winning short HANK DANGER AND THE WOMAN FROM VENUS! -- and the listen to the radio play -- HANK DANGER AND THE ISLAND OF FIRE! It's easily the best way to spend this weekend! VANISHING ACT is an official selection of this year's HollyShorts Film Festival! The festival takes place in Hollywood, California, from August 15 through 22 and hosts a number of high-profile short films and filmmakers. It's a tremendous honor to be included in the festival. Previously, Chuck's Boy films DEFECTOR and DONALD have played at HollyShorts. More details will be posted as they become available. Photo by Catherine Chamberlin. Last night, many members of West Michigan's film community gathered at the Grand Rapids Art Museum for the second annual Eclipse Awards, presented by WKTV and the West Michigan Film and Video Alliance. HANK DANGER AND THE WOMAN FROM VENUS! received an award for Production Excellence in the Film & Video category. Writer/producer/director Joshua Courtade was on hand to accept the award. In his speech, he thanked the organizations behind the event, his family, and the five other people who have worked on all five Hank Danger films to date: Scott Merriman, Liz Merriman, Diane Kowalski, Robert William Ford, and Chris Porter. It was a fun evening! HANK DANGER AND THE WOMAN FROM VENUS! will receive an Eclipse Award for Production Excellence on Friday, April 19, 2013! The Eclipse Awards are given annually by WKTV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the West Michigan Film and Video Alliance. This is the first such award for the Hank Danger series! Writer/director/producer Joshua Courtade will be present at the Grand Rapids Art Museum to accept the award on the 19th! |
